The
Secrets of Uncertainty...

and the
Mathematics of the Unknown
The advent of the 20th century brought revolutionary scientific and philosophical tumult! We had an in-your-face moment with chance all over again. It was slowly introduced through science; but philosophy responded immediately, and organized religion has been limping along trying to catch up. So what we shall do in this project is to take a journey into the heart of that tumult and into the heart of chance. We shall ask what it really is and what it is made of. I hope to help you to discover a new perspective on how chance operates all around us all of the time. And how you can embrace it to your advantage, and to a new sense of freedom and creativity.
To accomplish this, we shall peer into the structure of chance itself - how determinism is a simple special case of it - and investigate the philosophy and science of chance itself. We shall find a new curiosity about the formalization of chance - a branch of mathematics called probability theory. One of the first things we shall do there is to see how it is that determinism is, in fact, a simple special case of chance. Chance happens all the time everywhere. The universe evolves through chance. And some of those chance occasions are manifested as causality...but most are not.

Fear not! To the deeply curious, these can be outrageously interesting issues. And I claim to be sensitive to and talented at presenting them accessibly. I believe I can show how truly interesting they are. And I shall hold the "formula talk" to a bare minimum. I really can make common sense talk out these ideas. After all, they are just ideas. And they can be explained accessibly, in common English. I commit to doing just that. I shall put forth powerful evidence of the veracity of these ideas by simple and familiar examples from everyday life - and from four revolutionizing disciplines of modern science.
